Facilities & Sustainability

Turtle Creek Ecolodge is a fully off-grid, sustainable retreat, powered by solar energy and supported by an eco-friendly water and sewer system.

Guests can unwind on the expansive deck and lounge area overlooking the rainforest and Iron Range to the west, or relax beside the poolside dining and lounge area to the east.

The property features 15 km of walking trails, some following Turtle Creek, which offers seasonal swimming in crystal-clear rainforest waters. All of Iron Range’s endemic, migratory and unique species have been recorded on the property helping your stay become a wildlife watching delight.

Wildlife & Surrounds

Located beside Kutini Payamu (Iron Range) National Park, Turtle Creek Ecolodge sits within one of Australia’s most remarkable biodiversity hotspots.

All Endemic species recorded in the Iron Range have been observed on our property, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

Our onsite Zoologist is available to guide guests through the property’s trails, share insights into local ecology, and provide information on excursions further afield.

The surrounding landscape transitions from lush rainforest to the white sand beaches of Chilli, Quintell and Golden, with the nearby communities of Lockhart River & Portland Roads offering a glimpse of Cape York life.

Portland Roads also provides the closest boat across to the outer Great Barrier Reef, where fishing and wildlife charters can be arranged with local operators.

Practical Information

Transfers: Turtle Creek Ecolodge is located just 2km from Iron Range (IRG) Airport, with complimentary pickup and drop off available.

Car Hire: 4WD hire is available locally for $140 per day.

Local Services: The Lockhart River community (10km away) includes a medical clinic (regularly serviced by RFDS), a police station, and a general store with supermarket supplies.

Travel Advisory: Iron Range is a remote region with rapidly changing weather conditions. Aircraft may be unable to land during periods of heavy rain, so we recommend allowing 1-2 day travel buffer when planning transfers to or from Cairns - particularly during the wet season.
